Christmas Services at St. Mark's

Christingle

Christmas Eve, 4.00pm

During the Service, after making your Christingle, the candles are all lit to create a warm, magical glow symbolizing the light of Christ and bringing hope to people living in darkness.

The Children's Society holds it's special Christingle appeal each year to raise awareness and vital funds for the children in this country who face life‘s harshest challenges.

The Christingle

The 'Christingle', which symbolises the light of Christ's love, is a lighted candle mounted in an orange, which has a red ribbon or tape around it. Also surrounding the orange are four cocktail sticks, each bearing dried fruit or sweets.

  • The orange - represents the world
  • The lit candle - symbolises Jesus, the Light of the World
  • The red ribbon or tape - indicates the love and blood of Christ
  • The dired fruits and sweets - are symbolic of God's Creation
